The “Meals On Wheels” program provides service to people at nutritional risk and monitors their physical and social well-being. It is part of the HACC (Home and Community Care Program).
There are 96 HACC funded agencies in Victoria providing over 3.5 million meals per year delivered by 15,000 volunteers.
Meals Victoria (Victorian Meals on Wheels Association Incorporated) is dedicated to the continuous improvement, promotion, and sharing of information and ideas for all Meals on Wheels providers throughout metropolitan and regional Victoria. It is our aim to raise the public profile of this valuable service and acknowledge the efforts of the paid and volunteer workforce that help deliver this service.
Meals Victoria is also committed to development and improvement of the service throughout the State. Most of our members work at grass roots level and have an innate understanding of the issues facing services and clients. It’s these issues that we can often address at our meetings and feedback to government.
In early 2009 we released what was, and still is, the most comprehensive data analysis of Meals On Wheels ever undertaken in Australia. The Meals Victoria Provider Survey has proven to be valuable resource to members, local government managers and students.
Just about anything you need to know about meals on wheels is contained within the Meals Provider Survey 2008. People have asked us, is there an updated version? The answer is “no”, as all of the data is still highly relevant. This is the kind of survey an organisation would only undertake once every five to ten years, such is its scope and the time and resources involved. In key areas however, we do plan updates. With such a good base data, we will now be able to survey members on a few key questions, and monitor changes and trends in key areas.
